A Collection of Interviews with Shamans. This book’s interviews are centered around two key themes: han (deep sorrow or resentment) and eop (karma or destiny). Many shamans experienced sinbyeong (spiritual illness) before their initiation, enduring physical ailments or the loss of loved ones. It is this han that compels them to help others heal their own burdens. Once they take on this role, it is impossible to quit midway, as the deity they receive remains with them for life. The solitude and loneliness that shamans often feel after their spiritual awakening are far greater than most people might imagine. By reflecting on these aspects and listening with an open mind, we believe readers can bridge the emotional distance and better understand their world.
